HBA students finish up their work in Kenya and Tanzania

KINLEIGH HEADS EAST

As mentioned in my last blog, we have already said our goodbyes to the Mamas but I will be dropping by today before I leave to catch my plane to say one final farewell. It is hard to say goodbye because we know for the most part that we will probably not see these women again. We have all made some wonderful friends and learned some valuable life lessons from the Mamas.

Amanda and I have finally had the chance to analyze the data collected from our second market research initiative. I am happy to announce that our efforts here in Oyugis have been well received by the community and consumers of Fiti. All of our hard work has paid off as Fiti has experienced a 40% increase in product awareness! Prior to our work here,  13% of people knew what probiotics were, that number is now up to 36%  over the course of 3 months. We are very happy with these results and the Mamas understand what they have to do in the future to further improve these statistics.

This will be my final blog from East Africa. I will write about my experiences re-adjusting to life back in Western culture next week. This has been an incredible experience that has definitely changed my life.  To all future interns, should you have the opportunity to embark on this journey, I highly recommend you do so with the utmost enthusiasm and passion for your work. Be sure to keep your eyes and ears open because there is so much to see and learn. Remember to always consider the cultural implications of your actions and seize every opportunity that presents itself! This is a once in a lifetime adventure so be sure to make the most of it!
