The Ivey School of Business offers its students a number of unique opportunities, many of which occur outside of the classroom. Ivey Connects is a student-led organization that works to inspire Ivey students to contribute to the societies in which they operate; a vital aspect of the Richard Ivey School of Business’s Mission Statement. Ivey students have access to a wealth of resources; through Ivey Connects they harness these resources in order to make a difference within their community – and beyond.
Jessica Kelly, HBA 2009, was this past year’s International Outreach Project Manager for Ivey Connects. “Having spent my previous summer with an outreach project in Tanzania, I really wanted my fellow students to be able to take advantage of similar life-changing opportunities. We knew our budget wasn’t sufficient to support a group grip, so we decided to provide grants to a few students participating in international volunteer trips to ease the financial burden.”
There were five exceptional candidates that came forward for the grant opportunity, and with the help of Oana Branzei and the Institute for Entrepreneurship, Jessica Kelly and the International Outreach Project were able to obtain funds to provide each student with $1,000.
Part of Ivey Connects’ mandate is to inspire all students to volunteer, so the goal is to bring the international volunteer experiences of the five students to the entire Ivey Community. With this goal in mind, each of the grant recipients will keep a blog. Upon their return to classes in September, they will also give presentations to share their experiences, lessons learned, and other wisdom they acquire while travelling.
Best of luck to the following students on behalf of the Pierre Morrissette Institute for Entrepreneurship:
Jory Cohen - http://jorycohen.wordpress.com/ Jory is working in Kimundo, a village in rural Tanzania. He will be working in an orphanage and a primary school, teaching English, Math, Science and Business. Hilary Ambrose - Hilary is working with Volunteer Abroad in Arusha, Tanzania. Volunteer Abroad is partnered with three organizations in the village- a hospital, and x-ray clinic, and a centre for women’s and children’s health. Howdy this is kind of of off topic but I was wanting to know if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with HTML. I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding know-how so I wanted to get advice from someone with experience. Any help would be enormously appreciated!
