Ivey hosts symposium to examine the strategies needed to build a successful medical technologies industry and improve healthcare worldwide
London, ON - May 26th 2011
New technologies are vital in helping patients get better faster and stay healthier longer, but too many of these technologies never make it to market or become widely adopted. Overcoming funding obstacles, communicating the value of new medical devices and creating infrastructure receptive to innovative technologies are just a few of the topics that will be examined by medical professionals, technology experts, academics, and entrepreneurs at the Medical Technology Innovation symposium on June 10 and 11 in London, Ontario.
Presenters and attendees will also tackle what Canadian companies can bring to the world – and how they can compete globally. The Ivey Centre for Health Innovation and Leadership and Ivey’s Entrepreneurship Cross-Enterprise Leadership Centre are presenting world-renowned subject-matter experts including Manuel Trajtenberg, of the Council for Higher Education in Israel; Neil Fraser, President of Medtronic Canada; Lawton Burns of Wharton School of Business, Centre for Health Management and Economics; and John Soloninka, President and CEO of the Health Technology Exchange, among a roster of more than 30 eminent speakers and panelists.
“To make health care sustainable, we need to encourage and inspire innovation in health systems, processes and technologies,” said Anne Snowdon, Chair of the Ivey Centre for Health Innovation and Leadership. “This symposium examines the strategies that medical technology innovators need to succeed in the global health care marketplace, and the efforts that health institutions must take to embrace these innovations. We’re excited to bring together a conference that examines both sides of the equation – the inventors and innovators, and the health system adopters of technology to talk about mutual benefit of their shared success.”
